The very idea of hot air ballooning is mind-boggling. It's air travel in the most basic form. A basket, a balloon, inflate it with hot air and there you have it. So simple. Yet, there's something so romantic about how gently it soars in the air and how it relies so sensitively on weather conditions. It's almost as if it's some sort of a shy animal waiting for the perfect time to show off what it can do.
Living in Canberra you always come across them once in a while floating above the skies. However, this was the very first time I've seen them up close and taking off. Experiencing it from darkness to dawn is quite amazing. Well worth the effort of waking up in the morning. Next step is to find a way to get in one!
